Privacy Policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
Quick Verse listens to a sermon and puts the Bible verses being read on your church's screens. This policy explains what information that involves, what happens to it, and the choices you have. We've written it to be read, not skimmed past.
The short version
- We don't record or keep sermon audio. It's turned into text as it's spoken and then discarded.
- We don't save transcripts. They live in your browser while the dashboard is open.
- We keep your account and your session history (which verses were shown, and when) until you delete them.
- Your sermons are never sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.
- You can download or delete your data yourself in Settings, at any time.
1. Who we are
Quick Verse is provided by Jonathan Awobimpe, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). For account information we are the data controller under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Contact us about anything in this policy at admin@quickverse.co.uk.
2. Your church's content: whose data it is
When a church or other organisation uses Quick Verse, what happens in its services (the sermon audio, the words transcribed, the verses shown, the session history and sermon notes) belongs to that organisation. The organisation is the controller of that information and we process it on its behalf, only to provide the service, as a processor. The data processing terms in our Terms of Service set out what we promise.
If you use Quick Verse for yourself rather than for an organisation, we are the controller of that content too, and this policy covers it.
Sermons can reveal people's religious beliefs, which the law treats as a special category of personal data. We treat all service content as sensitive: it's used only to provide Quick Verse to the church that owns it, and never for anything else.
3. What we collect, and why
| Information | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Your account | Your email address and password (stored as a secure one-way hash by our login provider, never readable by us), and when you signed in. Used to sign you in and keep your history private to you. |
| Church team | If you start or join a church team: which church you belong to, your role (owner or member), and the team's invite code. The other members of your team can see your email address and the sessions run for the church. |
| Listening time | When each listening session started and ended, and which engine was used (cloud or offline). Used to plan capacity and set fair prices. It doesn't include anything that was said. |
| Problem reports | When you use Report a problem or Wrong verse?: your message and email, and (unless you untick it) the verse on screen, the last few sentences heard and your setup (screens connected, engine, browser). Used only to fix the problem and improve detection. |
| Plan and free trial | Your plan (free trial, early access or paid), when the trial ends, and how many hours of cloud listening it has used. If you subscribe: your Stripe customer and subscription references, whether the subscription is active, monthly or yearly, and when it renews. |
| Free-trial checks | So each church gets one free trial: when a trial is used, a one-way fingerprint (a salted hash, which can be compared but not turned back into the original) of the computer's ID and of your email address. The computer's ID is a random code the app keeps on the computer, or in the desktop app a hash of the computer's own hardware ID. We use it only to spot a new account starting a trial that has already been used, and we check email addresses against a public list of temporary-inbox services. |
| Sermon audio | While you're listening, the audio is streamed over an encrypted connection to our speech-recognition server, turned into text in memory and immediately discarded. It is never recorded or saved. |
| Transcript | The words recognised are sent back to your dashboard and shown there. We don't save them. They're cleared when you close the dashboard or start a new session. |
| Sermon context | The book and chapter being preached and the verses already shown, kept for 30 minutes so a dropped connection can pick up where it left off. It doesn't include the transcript. |
| Session history | Each session's name, date and the verses shown on screen (reference, text and time). Kept so you can see past services and download reports, until you delete them. |
| Sermon notes | Only when you press Write notes: the transcript and verse list are sent to our own notes model, the notes are returned to you, and nothing is saved by us. |
| Search | Words you type into the verse search are used to find verses and are not kept with your account. |
| Congregation follow-along | If you share the QR code, the verses you put on screen are sent live to anyone who opens that link. Nothing is collected from the people following: no sign-in, no names, no tracking. |
| Settings on your device | Your microphone choice, screen setup, screen look (background photo, text size and position), shortcuts and theme are saved in your browser or the desktop app on your computer. They aren't sent to us. |
| Screen look requests | If you describe a look for your screens, the words (typed, or a short recording you choose to make, turned into text and then discarded) are used to find matching background photos. They aren't kept with your account. |
| Newsletter | If you subscribe on our website: your email address, to send occasional updates about Quick Verse. Unsubscribe any time by replying or emailing us, and we delete it. |
| Website analytics | Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without identifying you, so we can see which pages are used. It doesn't follow you to other sites. |
| Technical logs | Our hosting providers record technical events (connections, errors, IP addresses) to keep the service secure and working. These logs don't contain what was said. |
We don't use your information for advertising, we don't sell or rent it to anyone, and we don't build profiles of you or your congregation.
4. The desktop app and offline mode
The desktop app finds presentation software (FreeShow, ProPresenter, EasyWorship) on your computer and local network and sends verses to it directly. That traffic stays on your network: it doesn't pass through our servers.
If you choose “This computer's sound”, your operating system asks permission to capture the computer's audio. That audio is handled exactly like microphone audio above. We don't capture or keep the picture on your screen.
In offline mode, speech recognition, search and verses run entirely on your computer and nothing about the service is sent to us. The app downloads updates and offline speech models from GitHub and Hugging Face, which see your computer's IP address when it does.
5. Automated processing and AI
Quick Verse uses speech recognition and language models to transcribe sermons, recognise verses and write sermon notes. These run on infrastructure we control (see below), using open models. Your content is not sent to outside AI companies and is never used to train AI models.
None of this makes decisions about people. It only suggests which verse is being read, and the person operating Quick Verse stays in control of what is shown.
6. Our legal reasons for using information
| Purpose | Legal basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Creating and running your account; providing the service you've asked for | Performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Processing service content on behalf of a church | On that church's instructions, as its processor (Art. 28). The church relies on its own legal basis, including any Art. 9 condition for religious content. |
| Keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, fixing faults | Our legitimate interests in a safe, working service (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Making sure each church gets one free trial (free-trial checks) | Our legitimate interests in offering free trials fairly without them being repeated (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Understanding which pages are used (cookie-free analytics) | Our legitimate interests in improving Quick Verse (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Recording listening time to plan capacity and set prices | Our legitimate interests in running and pricing Quick Verse fairly (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Sending the newsletter you subscribed to | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw any time |
| Billing, tax records, answering legal requests | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) and our contract with you |
8. International transfers
Some providers above process information outside the UK, mainly in the United States. Where they do, we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations (including the UK–US “data bridge” for certified companies) or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum approved by the UK Information Commissioner, so your information keeps the same level of protection.
9. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Sermon audio | Not kept: processed in memory, then discarded |
| Transcript | Not kept by us: only in your dashboard while it's open |
| Sermon context (book, chapter, verses shown) | 30 minutes after your last connection |
| Sermon notes | Not kept by us; our hosting provider holds the result only until it's delivered to you |
| Session history | Until you delete it, or delete your account |
| Problem reports | 12 months, then deleted |
| Newsletter email | Until you unsubscribe |
| Listening time | 2 years; when you delete your account it's kept only without anything linking it to you |
| Your account | Until you delete it. Accounts with no sign-in for 3 years may be deleted after we email you first. |
| Technical logs | For a limited period set by our hosting providers, for security |
| Free-trial checks (fingerprints) | 2 years from the last time they were used, including after an account is deleted, so a deleted trial can't simply be started again |
| Billing records | 6 years, as UK tax law requires |
10. How we protect it
Everything between your device and our services is encrypted (HTTPS / secure WebSockets). Every request to our servers must carry a valid sign-in, and your session history is only readable by your account. Passwords are never stored in a readable form. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your information we would tell you and, where required, the Information Commissioner's Office, within the legal time limits.
11. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can:
- See your data and get a copy of it. Settings → Account → Download my data does this instantly.
- Delete your data. Settings → Account lets you delete your sessions or your whole account.
- Correct anything that's wrong, restrict or object to how we use it, and take it to another provider (portability).
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it, at any time.
Email admin@quickverse.co.uk for anything you can't do in the app. We reply within one month. If your request is about a church's service content, we'll pass it to that church and help them answer it.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113.
12. Children
Accounts are for adults (18 or over) running services on behalf of a church or themselves. The congregation follow-along page collects nothing from the people who open it, so it's fine for all ages. If you think a child has created an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant (for example a new kind of information or a new provider) we'll tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect.
